Summer Magazine Celebrates Parenthood at Shepherd

Summer issue of Shepherd Center's magazine highlights how Shepherd Center supports parents and families

Summer 2026 Magazine Cover

Parenthood is never without challenges. But parents coming through Shepherd Center are often facing challenges they never imagined — caring for a child with a traumatic injury or navigating a lifelong diagnosis of their own. In the summer issue of Spinal Column magazine, we highlight how Shepherd Center supports patients and families, from providing family housing and support services to delivering tailor-made care to patients. The new issue is now available for download as a PDF file. Subscribers to the print version will receive copies via postal mail in the coming days.

In this issue's cover story, you'll meet five parents: caregivers to an adolescent traumatic brain injury patient, a patient from the Andrew C. Carlos Multiple Scleorsis Institute, a former spinal cord injury patient, and a client from the SHARE Military Initiative. All of them turned to Shepherd for the help they needed. This issue also features other patient and staff stories, updates from around the hospital, and information on recent fundraising and volunteer initiatives.

Have questions or feedback about this issue? Have an idea for a future Spinal Column story? We want to hear from you! Our Spinal Column reader survey, available here, will take five minutes or less to complete and will help us make the magazine a place for Shepherd Center patients, families, employees, volunteers, and community members to shine.
