Shepherd Center Partners with Championship Bull Riding

Shepherd Center and Championship Bull Riding (CBR) have partnered to help educate America’s competitive bull riders of the benefits of specialized rehabilitation following a catastrophic spinal cord or brain injury.

“Bull riding is a dangerous sport, even with the protective equipment that is available,” said Wes Bruce, CEO of CBR, which hosts a nationwide, televised, professional bull riding tour. “We are pleased to partner with Shepherd Center to help spread awareness of the options that are available if a catastrophic accident does occur.”

Shepherd Center, located in Atlanta, Ga., is one of the nation’s top hospitals for spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation. Shepherd Center treats nearly 950 people with spine or brain injury each year and sees thousands of people in its outpatient programs.

“In most cases, it is important to seek specialized rehabilitation as soon as possible after a spinal cord or brain injury since there is a relationship between the amount of therapy you receive following an injury and the level of recovery,” said Gary Ulicny, CEO and President of Shepherd Center. “We also hope to increase awareness among riders about how to help reduce the chances of sustaining a serious injury.”

Shepherd Center offers a complete continuum of care, from evaluation and medical treatment to rehabilitation and lifelong support programs. Treatment teams are managed by physiatrists and a multidisciplinary team of expert rehabilitation specialists. These professionals assess patients’ medical and clinical needs and coordinate their care program — from ICU-level care, rehabilitation and family training to post-acute services and outpatient services.
