In 1975, Alana, Harold and James Shepherd co-founded Shepherd Center after the family learned about the lack of high-quality, specialized rehabilitation care in the Southeast. James sustained a spinal cord injury in 1973 and had to travel halfway across the United States to receive specialized rehabilitation care.

“It’s an honor to be recognized at the Business to Business Awards event among such venerable peers,” said James Shepherd, chairman and co-founder of Shepherd Center. “It is rewarding to be recognized for positively impacting our community while doing something we love.”

Today, Shepherd Center is a world-renowned, 152-bed hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury and brain injury.

Alana Shepherd is one of the Center’s chief fundraisers and volunteers. She is active at Shepherd Center almost every day, leading tours for the community, and visiting patients and their families. James Shepherd is chairman of the Board of Directors, and Harold Shepherd is a member of the Board.

Event sponsors included Towers Watson, Chase and Troutman Sanders.
