Shepherd Center Co-Founder James Shepherd Shares What He's Thankful for this Holiday Season

By James Shepherd
Shepherd Center Co-Founder

The last few months of the year – and also the first few of the next one – give us the opportunity to both reflect in gratitude of the year passed and also to anticipate the promises of the year ahead.

At Shepherd Center, we are grateful for so much. Personally, I am thankful for the patients and their families who choose and trust Shepherd Center during what is undoubtedly a difficult time in their lives. I am grateful to share in their hope for progress and recovery, and I am constantly humbled by their spirit and tenacity.

Theodore Roosevelt once said, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” This quote reminds me of our team here and how they truly embrace each patient and each family. Patients and families often tell me their entire treatment team not only provides care to them, but also truly cares about them. I am grateful that our staff is committed to providing top notch healthcare to patients from their first days in our ICU continuing to their emotion-filled graduation ceremonies and beyond. The staff invests in each patient as an individual with endless potential on their path to rehabilitation.

I also give my genuine thanks to our volunteers and donors who are so gracious with their time, treasures and talents, especially with the ever-quickening pace of all of our lives. It means so much that you choose to spend your time with us, and we don’t take it for granted.

As we look toward 2018, my gratitude guides me with a renewed investment in reaching higher goals, making a bigger impact and expressing my thanks more often to those at Shepherd Center and beyond. As always, thank you for your support of Shepherd Center. Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season!
