Rotary Club Golf Tournament Benefits Shepherd Center's SHARE Military Initiative

ATLANTA -- The Rotary Club of Brookhaven announced that it raised more than $136,000 in cash and in-kind donations at its second annual Service Above Self Invitational golf tournament on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Cherokee Country Club.

Cunningham Associates Heating and Air led the fundraising effort as the General Level sponsor and helped Brookhaven Rotary increase its fundraising by 60 percent over last year’s Inaugural tournament. Net proceeds benefit Shepherd Center’s SHARE Military Initiative (Shaping Hope And Recovery Excellence), which cares for military servicemen and women with traumatic brain injury.

“The men and women who serve in our military and their families make many sacrifices to protect our freedom,” said Rotary Club of Brookhaven President Josh Moreland.  “Our sponsors, golfers and club members stepped up in a big way once again this year by helping to support the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center. We sincerely thank our sponsors, golfers and club members who worked so hard to make this tournament a huge success.”

“Shepherd Center relies on the generosity of donors to deliver the world-renowned care for which its reputation is known,” said Shepherd Center Foundation Executive Director Scott H. Sikes. “Because Shepherd Center is reimbursed for only 38 cents of every dollar of cost for the SHARE Military Initiative, we must raise $70,000 per month to support the gap in funding. We are extremely grateful for the hard work and generosity of The Rotary Club of Brookhaven and patrons of this event.”

Major-level tournament sponsors included Choate Construction, Magellan Health Services, Mingledorff’s Distributors/Carrier and Norton Benefit Group. Special guest Lieutenant Colonel Brent Cummings, who is stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., was among those in attendance.

The club plans on hosting the tournament again on May 13, 2013. For more information, visit www.sasinvitational.org.
