In this issue of Spinal Column, we delve into the stories of patients and families who have come full circle, reflecting on how their time at Shepherd Center instilled in them an unwavering determination to pay it forward, either by supporting Shepherd directly or by making a difference in the broader disability community. While her mom was a patient at Shepherd Center, Raeda Anderson, Ph.D., made it a personal goal to return to Shepherd to work in research. More than two decades ago, David Martin, then Delta Air Lines’ disability access manager, helped establish Shepherd’s airport outing program. This year, he attended the outing as a patient. And Brandon Winfield turned his experience after sustaining a spinal cord injury into an app that helps people with accessibility needs find new places to explore.
