Refresh of Shepherd Center Common Areas Under Way

A team of Atlanta interior designers are donating their talents and time to provide elegant and calming spaces for patients and families.

A refresh of the common areas at Shepherd Center’s main campus is under way with the help of some of Atlanta’s top interior designers.

Fifteen years ago, in the midst of new construction at the hospital, Shepherd Center co-founder Alana Shepherd tapped Barry Hutner, owner of Parc Monceau Antiques and a longtime Shepherd Center supporter, to assemble a team of designers to decorate the new spaces. While these spaces have endured, wear and tear necessitated a refresh this year. So once again, Alana asked Hutner to gather a team of designers willing to tackle the project.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to a place that offers healing and new beginnings for so many amazing people,” Hutner said.

Shepherd Center has always strived to provide elegant and calming spaces for patients and families, and this refresh is no exception. Fifteen designers were charged with planning spaces that inspire hope and positivity.

“Everyone’s attitude and willingness to participate has been overwhelmingly humbling,” Hutner said. “It’s especially fun to see some of the designers who worked on the original project breathe new life into the spaces.”

This team of designers is working on waiting rooms, entrances, outdoor areas, event spaces and family areas. They are working pro-bono, donating their talents and time, as well as finding resources willing to heavily discount or donate materials.

“We are lucky for many reasons to be in Atlanta, but this is a reminder of the pool of talent in design right around the corner,” Alana Shepherd said. “Their eyes for design are instrumental in helping us provide the right tone in each room.”

Their schemes are unbelievable, and implementation is under way, Alana added. Installation is expected by late summer or early fall.
